Branding at Diaspora Co.

From 2022 to 2023, I designed print materials, newsletters, physical spaces, and packaging as the principal designer at Diaspora Co. I was lucky to inherit a vibrant, expressive brand language and was encouraged to embrace a bold and maximalist aesthetic. During this time, I leaned deeply into South Asia’s rich cultural legacy in food, spices, and community to inform the brand’s visual voice. These brand expressions were created in close collaboration with the Diaspora Co. team, who are dedicated to building an equitable spice supply chain.

Client: Diaspora Co.

Focus: Branding, Packaging, Marketing tools

Year: 2023

As Diaspora Co. transitioned its supply chain from India to the USA, it made a significant shift from glass packaging to more durable tins. This redesign became an opportunity to enhance the brand’s visibility on store shelves while effectively communicating its sourcing story. Drawing inspiration from vintage Indian graphic design that evokes nostalgia for the Indian diaspora in the USA, the new packaging features a bold color palette, plant illustrations highlighting spice origins, and chiselled lettering reminiscent of Indian hand-painted signs.
