The illustrated calendar created for Homenet South Asia tries to capture the diversity of home based women workers in South Asia. The unorganised sector of home-based women workers forms a vital part of informal economies. However, they are rarely recognised as workers and excluded from any labour entitlements. The series of illustrations showcases the multifaceted traditional practices undertaken by workers in countries such as Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Maldives, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan. Here, I attempt to capture the labour and craftsmanship involved in practices like carpet weaving, embroidery, knitting and weaving, while also offering glimpses of community and care-work inherent in this form of labour.
