Inclusive Cities Project
The inclusive cities project was designed to organise housing activism workshops throughout India. These workshops emerged from a demand from housing rights activists for planning education, responsive to real-world needs and problems.
Planning in India, much like other postcolonial countries, emerges from colonial practices. These practices result in an education that is outdated and does not speak about our cities as we know them now. Just as there is a need to decolonize planning as a process, there is also a need for new ways of talking about and teaching planning. There is need for a new pedagogical practice - one that is rooted in the context of our cities.
For the workshops held in the city of Indore I was one among four urban fellows supporting the IIHS planning team in their research and the design of workshop tools, booklets and tutorials.
